a for anti-bride

W is for wedding and A is for Anti-bride.

Maybe you have never heard of “the anti-bride” or maybe you not sure what it all means.

The Anti-bride is challenging the prevailing notions of elegance, decorum, and adherence to age-old customs, “anti-bride” thrives on the belief that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to matrimony. Above all, it encourages couples to defy tradition and express their authentic, true-to-themselves love.

The anti-bride movement is simply whatever you want it to be. Your wedding, your rules. With years in the wedding industry, we have seen it all. Trends that have come and gone, traditions that have stuck and faltered. Societal expectations that are a thing of the past. We as North Americans come from two very young countries- neither rich in traditions. In fact, as melting pot countries, we have adopted many customs from cultures all over the world. Its time to re-define what the wedding looks like.

First thing is first- Lets establish who this wedding is for. If you answered yourselves, ding ding ding, winners!

Do you feel like inviting your parents deli guy is overkill and costly? Lose em. Hate the idea of bobbing for garter belts? Stop the creepiness. Don’t want to pressure your girlfriends into getting married via the bouquet toss? Throw love instead. Do you want to lose the heels in favour for cowboy boots? Giddy up! Too nervous to host and speak in front of 150 people? Hit up the Little White Wedding Chapel in Vegas and group chat your closest.

There is no shame in establishing the rules and ideas that will work for you as a couple. Whether finances, pressure or even old dreams have a part in determining which way your wedding-wind blows, take a moment when the engagement dust has settled, and have an honest conversation about your NEW expectations as individuals and as a couple.
